we want it to be very clear that rozz-tox stands in solidarity with black communities and protesters in the US and around the world fighting against systemic racism and police brutality. we have donated to a community bond fund to help out the arrested protesters and also to black lives matter. we urge you to do the same. don't be silent, protest, sign petitions, donate, vote, make your voice heard where and when you can. this country is so very divided and there needs to be a change. now. fight for what is right. help end white supremacy.
and please remember that there is still a killer virus out there. be safe.

update: 6.18.2020
as illinois moves into phase 4 in the reopening plan on 26 june, we will be shifting into a new iteration of rozz-tox; following strict health guidelines, adding more days, later hours, and the food/ drink menu will be changed to better fit this new reality.
our new hours in effect friday 26 june will be:
thursday/ friday/ saturday, 7pm - midnight.
27 june update: we are adding 11am-2pm on saturdays
masks will be required to enter the building and should be worn when not eating or drinking. there will be limited indoor seating; the upstairs library will remain closed, and sitting at the bar will not be allowed. ordering will be done at the counter, and preferably cashless.
27 june update: due to an rise in COVID cases (and iowa's stupid move to reopen early) we have decided to not have indoor seating available, and will continue with outdoor seating only. however, restrooms inside will still be available, mask required.
outdoor seating will be available in the backyard, side patio, and the laborspace/future apple tree studio park next door. we aim to continue the backyard balcony boogie every saturday with rotating djs serving tasty tunes from the balcony, weather permitting.
the last day of our current curbside/ pulley system will be saturday 20, june. it's been fun.
we look forward to the new new RT and seeing your faces more.

update 11/02/2020:
well, we were going to reopen the inside on 11.11, but the state has outlined new mitigations to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in effect from 11.04, so we will have to push back the reopening to a later date. stay tuned.

update 11/07/2020:
we're working on getting our drive-thru ready for the winter, and will be opening early for coffee, tea, and breakfast bao (chinese dimsum style buns w/ soyrizo 'n egg and an egg custard option).
please consider donating to our winter fund, which will help us stay in this building while we get things ready for the drive-thru. click the link to read more about why we need to ask for your help, and how we'll be using these funds.
update 11/11/2020:
today is my mom’s birthday. she would be 62.
she would def cry if she knew how supportive ya’ll have been. we have exceeded our fundraising goal and have also received a grant from the state.
it makes me very happy and relieved to tell you that rozz-tox will be okay through the winter.
on behalf of my mother missy, and myself: THANK YOU.
stay safe. wash your hands. wear a mask. stay home if you can. call your mom.

update 11/14/2020:
so, here we are again, 8.5 months later and worse off than we were at the beginning. it's frustrating to see the rozz-tox fam over in china getting back to a pre-pandemic narrative and we're still dicking around trying to get everyone to wear a mask.
i definitely see us heading for a stay-at-home order in the next week or two, and i'm okay with that. the only problem with this is that it only works if everyone does it and, i hope i am wrong but, that's not going to happen. our only hope is a vaccine that will slowly reduce the numbers. this is going to be america's story for the next couple of years ya'll.
i guess all we can do now while we wait is trust science, math and credible sources for news, and each do our part by staying home if possible, wearing masks when out in public, washing hands frequently, physically distancing yourself from people that you do not live with. this is going to be difficult winter. take care of your mental health as much as you are your physical health.
our advice for surviving a winter at home during a pandemic:
• exercise
• meditate
• read
• journal
• vitamin D
• vitamin C
• healthy diet
• listen to music
• design the lighting in your home to make you feel good
• regular phone/ video calls with family & friends
• and a psilocybin micro dose once in a while

update 01/24/2021:
we know that the state has recently moved our region into tier 1 mitigations, allowing us to have up to 25 people inside w/ rules and restrictions on how that is executed.
however, we have not been open inside since the start of the pandemic and will continue to keep the inside closed until we are vaccinated.
our main focus right now is getting the morning drive-thru running, which should be in a couple of weeks if all goes smoothly; we're waiting on some new coffee equipment and signage to help with the flow of the drive-thru, and we're getting closer every week.
our spring/ summer focus will be to bring back the backyard boogie and garden film screenings. we learned a lot last year hosting outdoor events and we think this year will be even safer, provided everyone does their part.
our end goal is to reopen inside and start hosting shows again. we intend on being here for you when this is over.

update 03/12/2021:
okay, so here is our 2021 projection: the drive-thru will open this monday 15 march, and will be open 7am-1pm mon-fri. vroom vroom! swing by the window for a coffee, tea, breakfast bao (soyrizo & egg or egg custard) or a tofu banh mi. and we have a beautiful old italian espresso machine now. it has red panels, weighs a tonne, and looks really great in here. our espresso beans are from madcap coffee, and our house blend is from dark matter. only the best for you bbs, xo.
next month, in april, we will start doing walk-up evening hours and outdoor events again, like last year: thursday nights will be chill-out hang nights, garden cinema on fridays, and saturday night djs. we'll also have more outdoor market happenings this year. we plan on riding this wave into october. oh, and this year (april 1, specifically) is our 10 year anniversary, so keep your eyes n ears open for our birthday party ;) should be sometime in april.
and hear it is: this fall we plan on reopening inside and, mayyyyybe start booking shows again. fingers crossed. honestly, we can't wait to have you back in here. but until then, pop by and see us at the window.
don't be an asshole, get vaccinated, wear a mask; this is a collective effort.

update 3/20/2021:
i want it to be known and very clear that while we have always practiced an “all are welcome” policy, we will not tolerate racism or any other form of hate, bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia etc.
ROZZ-TOX was conceived in china, and still has a few locations there, run by our chinese fam. i was raised by a single mother, and have immense love and appreciation for women. my best friends on this planet are people of color and people from other countries/ cultures, and i am sex-positive. if you have a problem with any of this, don’t come here.
we have always been allies and will continue to support our friends in every way we are able to.
hate has no place here.
